I often get asked where to start when it comes to battling gout.
There’s heaps of information on this website and around the internet however it can be overwhelming and confusing, especially when you’re in the middle of a gout attack.
That’s why I’ve put together this article with an easy 3 step process to start battling gout.
Step 1 – Diet
Most people who suffer from gout either have a poor diet, or eat “trigger” foods which cause a gout flare up.
A poor overall diet often causes weight gain, and people who are overweight are at a far greater risk of getting gout.
What should I do?
Eat more: vegetables, lean meat (chicken, white fish), fruits (moderately, read why here), eggs, nuts.
Drink more: water. Learn how here.
Eat less: red meat (max 1-2 servings per week)
Avoid: oily fish, organ meats, seafood, alcohol, sugar, bread/dough.
Step 2 – Exercise
A lack of exercise reduces blood circulation which can cause all sorts of health issues including heart disease and is a major factor in gout.
Without good blood circulation, and combined with a poor diet, uric acid crystals form in the joints which are the cause of gout.
What should I do?
Go for a walk every day, even if it’s only for 10-15 minutes.
Try and build up to 30 minutes of exercise, 5 days per week.
Keep it simple – just walk around your neighbourhood. Do the same route every day so you know what to expect, how long it will take.
Make it interesting. Listen to music or a podcast to keep your mind off the exercise. Track your steps with a pedometer or smart watch such as a Fitbit or Apple Watch.
Step 3 – Supplement
Keeping uric acid levels in check is the key to stopping gout.
Diet and exercise play a big part in that, but nature provides a number of ingredients which help to naturally lower uric acid levels as well.
It’s almost cheating because it’s the easiest thing to do, but can have a big impact on keeping gout under control.
Tart Cherry Extract, Celery Seed and Chanca Piedra are the 3 best natural ingredients for fighting gout which is why we’ve chosen them along with 11 supporting ingredients for Gout Control Advanced.
What should I do?
Buy Gout Control Advanced and take 2 capsules with food once per day.
Giving the gout control tabs a go and so is a sufferer that I work with. I am starting on one tablet a day. He is about to start as well. Be interesting to see the results as we both suffer from the bloody horrible gout attacks
